Luxurious Experiences In and Near Austin, Texas

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Are you looking to wow guests? Celebrate a special life milestone? Are you visiting Austin, Texas and want something memorable to do? Here are our top things to feel fancy that may break the bank.

Activities

DriveTanks
Located in Uvalde, TX – like the name implies, you can drive and shoot with real tanks. It’s a quick 30 minute flight in your private jet straight to their private landing strip. If you’re heading there by car allocate 3.5 hours. If you like to see money go up in flames, try the flame thrower. If you like to see your money flattened, try the ‘crush a car with a tank’ experience. Do you just like to see your money go away fast? Try machine gunning. Only looking to drive a tank? Say no more, rip through their onsite 18,000 acre property with your friends aboard as you steer WWII tanks through rivers while gazelle bound in front of you (this literally happened to us). Did you always want to shoot a Tommy Gun? They have it. This is the place the videogame makers go to make replicas of guns and record real ammunition sounds (fact). High recommend this experience for group trips, birthdays to wow your favorite person, and bachelor parties — but it’s going to cost you.

They have onsite lodging and a restaurant if you want to do more than a day trip. The entire place has wild exotic animals onsite (see OxRanch below). It felt like we were entering into the savannah when we arrived.

OxRanch
Located on the same property as DriveTanks is OxRanch. Here you can take part in native and exotic hunting on 18,000 acre property. Take the PJ in and take home a trophy.

Pavati Rental on Lake Travis or Ladybird Lake
The only Pavati for rental in the country is in Austin! Hit them up for a day on the lake for wake surfing or wakeboarding! Looking to stay out late? They have enough lights to throw a midnight poker party for you and your friends out on the water. Oh, and their boat has its own liquor dispensers, to boot!

Miraval Austin Resort & Spa
It’s luxurious and you’ll feel like a king/queen when you leave! It’s closer to Lake Travis and away from the city for which reason I don’t recommend it for guests but it’s great to treat yourself!

Retro Boat Rental
If you pair this when the bats are here (June-September) and go for a sunset cruise, you can get right up near the Congress Bridge where bat viewing is best! It can fit up to four people.

Places to Stay

The Commodore
This is about 10 min drive from the heart of the city. It’s a very secluded and private venue with great security. But, it’s a little harder to get to places if your goal is to always be doing things and if you want a walkable experience. Spa onsite as well. This is also the only two Michelin key rated hotel in the city (among other awards).

The Proper
It’s located in the heart of the city and is the best of the best. If you are looking to be in the thick of it and have a great spot to land, this is it. The restaurants and lounges do not disappoint.

SoHo House Austin
If you’re a member, this is a great option. It’s also located in the thick of things but on the opposite side of the city as The Proper.
